*Please note* this post was originally published in 2017. I’ve since redone the post but the recipe remains the same

I’m baaaack! It is so weird that I didn’t post anything for over a week (gasp)! Since starting this blog I have never gone that long without posting something. I guess that’s because I didn’t go on a vacation for a really really LONG time!! Anyway, now that I’ve got a tiny bit of a post typed out I can relax (a little). I hope the next few sentences make sense, but if they don’t, I’m blaming it on my foggy jet-lagged brain. Trust me, this cherry whiskey sour will make up for it!

You guys, Portugal was AAAAH-mazing. Once I get my photos all in order I will do a post entirely on the trip, and what we got up to for the 7 days. 7 days was not long enough!! Well, it was just the right amount of time to be gone from my boys, but it was definitely not long enough to explore everything the country has to offer. But, I’ll have to leave you in suspense so you’ll come back to visit me once my Portugal post is up! I’ll give you just one word: WINE. They do it right!!

So, these cherry whiskey sours….

What’s in a cherry whiskey sour?

Inspired by my favorite cocktail, the whiskey sour, I’ve added a sweet twist to the mix to really knock your socks…err…sandals off. I love a good whiskey sour, but I find that the flavors vary so much between bartenders. A classic whiskey sour contains whiskey/bourbon, lemon juice, and sugar. I’ve been served a whiskey sour made with lime, lime juice (that green stuff), club soda, you name it.

Personally, I prefer limes to lemons, so I went with the green for this drink. The cherry simple syrup adds a wonderfully sweet contrast, and hey, who doesn’t love the pretty red color!?

To make 1 cocktail, you’ll need about 4 ounces of pitted, diced cherries and 1 lime.

How do you make a cherry simple syrup?

If you’ve never made your own simple syrup, now is the time. It is literally 2 ingredients and takes about 5 minutes. Please don’t buy plain simple syrup!! It’s quite possibly the easiest thing you’ll ever make. I’ve left some instructions in the recipe below.

To make this cherry simple syrup, just make a quick simple syrup for the cherries to soak in for at least 30 minutes. After that, you just blend all of the other ingredients until frothy. The result is a lightly sweetened, refreshing cocktail with just the right amount of tartness.

How many drinks does this recipe make?

My recipe makes 1 – 8oz cocktail. If you want to make 2, just double all of the ingredients.

Tomorrow is Canada’s 150th birthday. I had a few plans for what I would post for this momentous day but unfortunately with everything going on the past few weeks I’ve run out of time. This drink is my toast to my fellow Canadians. How lucky are we to be a part of this amazing country!!

Cheers!
