I may not have mentioned this before, but growing up I had a peanut allergy! This meant that at Halloween time, what felt like all of my candy got snatched away after all of my hard work. To be fair, that candy was replaced by nut-free candy, but it was still a disappointing feeling! Anyway, mars bars were always a safe bet and I loved them. What’s not to love about caramel and nougat!?
Also – if you’ve never had a Mars bar, they’re a staple in all convenience stores and have been for years. I have used them in a few of my other recipes, such as my candy jar ice cream, but in this super easy recipe they really get to shine!
Ingredients for Mars Bar Squares
I’m so glad I get to add another easy recipe to my lineup of easy treats! Last week was the white chocolate popcorn, and this week it’s even easier. For this recipe you’ll need:
- full sized Mars candy bars
- unsalted butter
- semi-sweet chocolate chips
- crisped rice cereal
Mars bars: If you can’t find Mars chocolate bars where you are, you can certainly just use something similar. Find something with caramel and nougat and not a lot of other extra ingredients.
Directions for Making Mars Bar Rice Krispie Squares
1. Unwrap all of the Mars bars, and chop them into pieces. Reserve a 1/4 cup of the pieces for later.
2. In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter until it’s just melted, then add the chopped Mars bars (minus the extra 1/4 cup). Stir the mixture until everything is smooth, then remove the pot from heat and add in the crisped rice cereal and remaining 1/4 cup of Mars bars. Stir everything with a wooden spoon until the cereal is completely coated in the chocolate.
3. Empty the mixture into a greased 8″x 8″ pan, then gently spread it out. In another bowl, heat together the remaining unsalted butter and chocolate chips, stirring together until smooth. I usually place the butter and chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it on high for about 30 seconds, stirring after until smooth.
4. Spread the chocolate topping over the top of the bars, then sprinkle a few extra Mars bars on top if desired. Let the bars harden for an hour in the fridge before slicing and serving!
How Long Do Mars Bar Squares Last?
If you keep these no bake bars in the fridge, in an airtight container, they would last for up to 2 weeks. They’ll stay fresh at room temperature, in an airtight container, for up to 1 week.
You could also choose to freeze these bars, in which case they’d last for up to 2 months, or longer! Just be sure to thaw them overnight in the fridge before you’re ready to serve them. I think they’d be delicious even frozen, but you’d have to be careful you don’t chip a tooth!

How Many Servings Does This Recipe Make?
I chose to cut the bars into 16 squares and the bars were fairly large for a single portion. I think you could cut them even smaller to have up to 32 pieces, and they’d be a good bite sized square.
If you’re feeding a crowd and want to double the recipe, just double all of the ingredients and use a 9″ x 13″ pan instead. Everything else will be identical, except that you’ll be reserving 1/2 cup of extra chopped Mars bars to incorporate along with the crisped rice, rather than 1/4 cup.
This recipe is very easy to double, or even quadruple as long as you account for the size of the pan you’ll need! Or work with 2 pans at once.
