I can’t believe it’s August!! I’m starting to see some fall things popping up in my feeds and it makes me irate. Can we all just agree to wait until at least September 1 to post all the pumpkin!? This past week was our FIRST full week of awesome weather and I just want to soak it in!

Soaking in summer also means sipping on a frosty cocktail, and this easy watermelon margarita is just the ticket. You can whip it up in under 5 minutes! It’s fruity, boozy and easy. What more could you want?!

Did you know that Etienne doesn’t even really love watermelon? This was a shocking revelation when we were first dating, haha. Who doesn’t like watermelon!? It’s classic summer eats! I mean, I’ve had a crummy watermelon or two, but those crisp, sweet ones are THE BEST.

So what goes into a watermelon margarita?

Well, duh. Watermelon! Along with some ice, honey, lime, tequila and triple sec. Tequila may not be a surprise, but what about the triple sec? I actually didn’t realize that it was a pretty standard component to a margarita. It gives it that nice fruity, boozy flavour that we crave from a summer cocktail!

To make these cocktails, you literally just blend all of the ingredients together and serve them up!

Can you make watermelon margaritas ahead of time?

You will definitely want to serve the drinks immediately, because the foam from the watermelon tends to drift towards the surface. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, since it’s still tasty, but it’s preferable to have the margarita all mixed together!

If you only serve half and need to save the rest for an hour or so, just stick the whole blender in the freezer. Give it a quick buzz before serving the remainder, and don’t forget about the blender in the freezer or you’ll have a popsicle!

This particular recipe makes about 4 drinks, perfect for a little social gathering, or a relaxed night on the deck with your partner.

I can even tell you that my watermelon-hating hubby loves these. Slice and dice that juicy melon you’ve got sitting on your countertop and whip up one of these cocktails!

Cheers!

While I try not to judge people and their food choices, I am always a little confused when folks start cooking with apples and pumpkins in August (Except for food blogger who sometimes need to plan ahead). Personally, I always feel a little nervous that I won’t be able to consume as many melons and cherries as possible in summer! 🙂 Watermelon margaritas sound a luscious refreshing coctail. I totally need a drink or two…but wait…I didn’t realize that a recipe calls for another type of alcohol besides tequila either. Interesting!
