There’s no need to turn on the oven for this simple stovetop granola! This is a quick granola recipe that you can make all in one pan. It’s sweet and crunchy and delicious!
Well we had some summer weather for a while here and it was DELIGHTFUL. But, in typical hot weather of Alberta fashion, we’re now experiencing wildfire smoke too! It smells like a campfire in here. Hopefully it will pass soon!
So, with the hot weather we had, I was trying not to turn the oven on; however, there are some things I turn it on for anyway. Granola being one of them! This time, I had the idea of experimenting with a stovetop version of granola instead!
I haven’t posted a granola recipe in a while – we took a break from granola in the house for no particular reason, but it was only a few months before we started missing it with our yogurt in the mornings. This stovetop granola is a perfect way to whip up a batch of your favourite breakfast food without creating any extra heat in the house!
How do you make granola on the stove?
Stovetop granola is so simple! Mixing a combination of oil and honey together allows the granola to cook on the stove and get crispy and crunchy without burning, especially if you’re using low heat during the process.
You’ll need to gather the following ingredients:
- rolled oats
- cinnamon
- coconut oil (or olive oil)
- honey
- raw pumpkin seeds
- chopped pecans
- coconut chips/flakes
Once the granola is cooked and cooled, you could also add in other ingredients such as chocolate chips, dried cranberries or raisins.
Instructions for stovetop granola:
- In a large pan on the stove, melt the coconut oil with the honey over low heat. Once melted, add the rolled oats, ground cinnamon, coconut flakes, chopped pecans, pumpkin seeds and a sprinkle of salt.
- Stir everything together with a wooden spoon, and spread the mixture out as flat as you can. Let it all cook over low heat for about 4 minutes before stirring again and then laying it flat again. Doing this repetitively will help the oats cook faster and ensure they stay crunchy! Some caution though, don’t let the mixture sit without stirring for more than 3-4 minutes at a time or it will definitely begin to burn!
- Cook the granola on the stove for about 10 minutes, or until the oats and coconut are lightly browned and fragrant. Remove the granola from heat and allow it to cool in the pan for 10-20 minutes before stirring and serving.
- Once the granola has completely cooled, you can add in 1/4 cup chocolate chips, 1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries, or any other add-ins you’d like! White chocolate chips are also delicious.
How do you enjoy stovetop granola?
The most classic way to enjoy this granola is with some Greek yogurt and maybe a little bit of fruit or a drizzle of honey on top! This is definitely our favourite way to eat it. You could also simply enjoy this granola on its own as a snack, or with a bit of milk in a bowl!
You could also use this granola in an apple crisp as a lighter topping, or stuffed into baked apples!
Can this granola be made vegan and gluten free?
If you keep the recipe as is, this granola is naturally gluten free. In order to make this recipe vegan, you only need to replace the honey for maple syrup. Either way you can take comfort in knowing that your granola is naturally sweetened with no added sugars! Yay!
Will this granola have clusters?
We all love those crunchy granola clusters! To ensure you get a few nice crunchy clumps of granola, ensure you use my method in the instructions above of pressing the granola down flat in the pan while you’re cooking it. Also, you will need to leave the granola in the pan until it’s completely cooled before breaking it up to store.
What’s the best way to store this granola?
Once cooled completely, I like to keep my granola in an airtight container for storage, at room temperature. It will stay fresh for 1-2 weeks if you keep it tightly sealed! Ours usually doesn’t last that long, it’s so good!

We love granola around here. My go-to granola recipe is almost always this chocolate coconut pecan recipe, but here are a few of my other faves:

Great recipe! This is how I’ve always done it.
I’m absolutely amazed by this stovetop granola recipe from Love In My Oven! The idea of making granola on the stovetop with oats, nuts, seeds, and honey, and then adding dried fruit for a delightful crunch and sweetness, is simply brilliant. It’s a quick and easy way to enjoy homemade granola without even turning on the oven.
Can you use other nuts? Such as chopped walnuts etc?
