These easy hot honey chicken wings are made in the air fryer or oven, and couldn’t be simpler to make! They are perfect for game day or wing Wednesday. Simple and delicious!

When I started writing this post I couldn’t decide whether to categorize these hot honey chicken wings as an appetizer, snack or a main meal. Honestly, wings are definitely a main meal in my books, but they can certainly go in many different categories! I am, true to form, a bit late for posting these as the Super Bowl was just this past Sunday and these would have been PERFECT to have up before then. Alas, life got in the way.
Anyway, if you haven’t yet tried the “hot honey” craze that seems to be going around, you can start with this recipe. If you have jumped fully on the bandwagon and are a big fan, then you should also just go ahead and make these.
I’ve made these hot honey wings in the air fryer for this post, but I’ve also included instructions for a traditional oven baked wing!

Ingredients For Hot Honey Chicken Wings
These wings are so simple! This recipe is suited for 2 pounds of chicken wings. I buy the split tip wings in a big pack from Costco!
For this recipe you’ll first want to create a rub for the wings to make them extra flavourful, with a few pantry ingredients. For the rub you’ll need:
- paprika
- chili powder
- salt
I also like to toss the seasoned wings in just a bit of avocado oil.
For the hot honey sauce, you’ll need:
- pure honey
- hot sauce
- butter
Hot Sauce: I like using Frank’s Red Hot Sauce (original) but you can use your favourite! Any level of spice is fine depending on your preferences.

Recipe Directions
The directions below are for the air fryer. I will include instructions below for traditional cooking instructions!
1. Pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel. Place them in a bowl along with the avocado oil and combined seasonings. Toss everything together until the wings are evenly coated.
2. Place a piece of aluminum foil on the baking tray of the air fryer basket to help with cleanup. Place the wings in the air fryer basket, then cook the wings in the air fryer at 400 F for 25 minutes, turning the wings halfway.
Note: Be sure the wings are evenly spaced apart to ensure crispiness! You might have to cook the wings in two batches.
3. While the wings are cooking, heat the hot sauce, butter and honey together in a small saucepan on the stove over low heat. Once the sauce starts simmering, let it bubble for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and keep the lid on to keep the sauce warm while the wings cook!
4. Once the wings have cooked, place them into a serving dish and pour the hot honey sauce all over them, then toss them to coat all over in sticky goodness!

Oven Bake Directions
To make these hot honey chicken wings in the oven, follow the same steps as above, rubbing the wings in the oil and spice blend. Preheat the oven to 465 F and place the wings in a lightly greased casserole dish.
Bake the wings for 40-45 minutes, turning them halfway through. They’re done when they are extra crispy and brown! While the wings are baking, prepare the hot honey sauce following the same directions as above.
You can toss the wings in the sauce right in the casserole dish!
