Want to learn how to make lemonade without sugar? This easy honey lemonade recipe requires only 3 ingredients and contains no refined sugars! You’ll be making this lemonade with honey all summer long!
I’m kicking off summer with a new goal – to give you guys a new summer staple 3 INGREDIENT recipe every week! I guess I technically kicked this off LAST week with my 3 ingredient pie crust recipe. It is pie season, after all!
But this week I’m making it official. And starting it with this easy honey lemonade! I’ve been making this for my kiddos for a long time, since it’s super refreshing and all natural. We LOVE lemonade around these parts but I just don’t love the crazy amounts of sugar in the store-bought kind. So I started making my own lemonade with honey a few years ago and haven’t looked back. You’ll love it too!
Speaking of summer, this upcoming weekend is looking beautiful, Wally’s birthday is on Sunday, and there is only a month of school left! SUMMER! So excited. My favorite season of the year, hands down.
Ingredients For Easy Honey Lemonade
LITERALLY all you need for this recipe is:
- honey
- lemons
- water
That’s it! You’ll need 1 cup of pure lemon juice, which is about 5-6 lemons, depending on the size of them. I always squeeze my juice into a measuring cup to make sure I’m getting the right amount.
If you don’t already have a lemon squeezer, I highly recommend it! There are a few fancy electric ones out there but my favourite is a simple manual squeezer like this cast iron one. I use this thing almost every day!
How To Make Lemonade Made With Only Honey and Lemons
1. I always start by squeezing my lemon juice into a measuring cup. Once you have the juice squeezed, add the honey directly to the lemon juice and use a whisk to thoroughly combine the two together. Whisk until the honey is completely dissolved, and be sure there are no sticky globs left!
2. Add the honey and lemon mixture to a large serving pitcher, then add 4 cups of ice cold water directly to the pitcher. I like to add ice to the pitcher as well, and then give everything a stir to combine.
3. Serve the lemonade right away or save it in the refrigerator for later! That’s it!
How Long Does This Easy Honey Lemonade Last?
Stored in the fridge, this lemonade will last for up to a week, although it’s so good that it probably won’t be sitting very long!
If it’s been a few days, you might need to give it a stir to make sure everything is still dissolved together; although, if you’re making this during a hot streak of weather, you will probably want to make a double batch!
Are There Any Alternatives To Honey For This Lemonade Recipe?
I have actually tried this lemonade with both maple syrup and agave syrup, for when my kids were under 1 and I wanted to give them a taste.
Note: Do NOT give honey to children under 1 year of age!
I would say the agave was the best as a substitute for the taste of honey, while the maple syrup definitely had that “maple” flavour. It is delicious for sure, but I prefer the honey!
You can also make this lemonade a little more lemon-y by intensifying the lemon juice and adding more lemons! Taste and test until you get it just right, exactly as you prefer it.
Happy summer!!
